Monday May 29th, 2023 Honeoye Lake Water Quality

Surface Water Temperature: ~68.0 F

Water Clarity: ~13.1 Feet

Lake Level: 803.7 Feet above sea level

Lake level relative to long term average lake level: +0.2 Feet

Observations: Monday (5/29/23), Over the last week the water clarity decreased by ~4.9 feet to ~13.1 feet and the surface water temperature increased by ~6.1 F to ~68.0 F. We did not visually see any signs of a blue-green algae bloom today. Good dissolved oxygen levels at all water depths. It was a beautiful spring day to be out on Honeoye Lake!

We are still seeing a lot of Spirogyra, a green filamentous algae, in shallow water over the last several of weeks. Picture on left.

Also, we are seeing a lot of Curly Leaf Pond Weed, an early season aquatic plant, growing to the lake surface in our unusually clear water this spring. It typically dies off naturally in late June. It’s leaf’s look like Lasagna. Pictures below:

The HVA lake level device is now working again. The HVA and HLWTF web site lake level links are now being updated several times a day. honeoye_lake_level_30.jpg (800×400) (telogdhs.com)

Please report any Honeoye Lake HABs you observe to us and DEC by submitting a HABs report at:

Always use your own visual assessment before making contact with the lake water at this time of year as the blue-green algae situation can change daily if not hourly. Please regularly check the DEC HABs alert map for more detailed updates on Honeoye Lake HABs alerts:

Since the lake level is currently only a few inches above normal. The Sheriff's Office has lifted it's "No Wake Order". We thank you for complying with the Sheriff's No Wake order.
