Surface Water Temperature: ~71.8 F

Water Clarity: ~8.3 Feet

Lake Level: 803.2 Feet above sea level

Observations: Monday (6/8/26), Water clarity was ~8.3 feet. This was a water clarity increase of ~2.0 feet over the last week. The surface water temperature was ~71.8 F which was an increase of ~6.5 F over the last week due the warm weather we have been having. Dissolved oxygen was well mixed in the water column and 5.20 mg/L at 9 m. It was a beautiful day to be out on Honeoye Lake!

Anabaena (Dolchospermum) (looks like a spring or chain of beads) and Microcystis (looks like a group of small round cells) have showed up in small quantities. See picture on the left. These are all blue-green (cyanobacteria) algae species. We do not expect to see blue-green algae blooms over the next few weeks, but you should be watchful for blue-green algae blooms just in case we get very warm temperatures of 80-90 F and calm winds. The spiky diatom is Asterionella (narrow cells arranged in a star-shaped colon). See image below: More information on blue-green algae can be found at: https://www.honeoyelakewatershed.org/habs

There have not been any Honeoye Lake blue-green blooms reported to the NYS DEC HABs alert map YTD. See NYS DEC HABs alert map below: Since Honeoye Lake has ~10 miles of shoreline your most accurate source of blue-green algae blooms is the crowd source bloom data found on the DEC HABs alert map (NYHABS).
