Honeoye Lake Ice Free again on Wed January 4th, 2023!
Honeoye Lake became ice free again on January 4th and we are already seeing boat fisherman! This was due to the warmer weather and rain we have been having over the last week. It will probably be several weeks before we have safe ice cover aging.
Just a reminder that if you intend to fish by boat New York State Law requires that you wear a lifejacket in any boat less than 21 feet long between November 1st and April 1st.
Honeoye Lake became completely ice covered on Christmas weekend. A few ice fisherman were already out today Monday 12/26. However, we have high temperatures forecasted in the 50 F range later this week. The ice cover may not hold long term. Be extremely careful if you venture out on the ice as it may not be safe everywhere yet.

The DEC Honeoye Lake Nutrient Inactivation Pilot Project Alum Treatment started on Tuesday November 1st and was completed on Friday November 18th. Now we are looking forward to seeing how much phosphorus reduction, algae reduction, and water clarity increase we get next summer as a result of the DEC’s Alum Treatment.
A few pictures that I took of the Alum Treatment Application barges are below:
